No Fay effects on Emerald Coast today

8/19/2008
By Tony Simmons, Florida Freedom Newspapers

Tropical Storm Fay will be moving north-northeast across the Southern and Central Florida peninsula today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee. No direct impacts from Fay are expected over this forecast area through tonight.

Expect scattered thunderstorms to develop today across the eastern Big Bend, but storms should remain below severe levels, the weather service reports.

Fay is expected to emerge off the east central Florida coast Wednesday morning and make a second landfall near Jacksonville late Thursday or Friday. The system may then move westward into North Florida and South Georgia generating gusty winds and potentially heavy rainfall as it weakens.
